Purpose of the Position (Job Summary)
Responsible for conducting laboratory investigations to identify, analyse and resolve process and product
issues in a running chemical plant.
The role involves supporting operations, quality and process engineering teams by simulating plant conditions
in the lab, analysing deviations and recommending corrective actions.
Key Individual Accountabilities
Strategy
Support process optimization studies ( reaction parameters, solvent/adsorbent efficiency, catalyst evaluation, impurity profiling)
Evaluate new materials and intermediates for quality impact on plant performance
Record and interpret experimental data, prepare trouble shooting reports and communicate findings to operations and process engineering
Financial
Ensure achievement of cost saving initiatives to achieve targeted savings in the given time frame
Identify potential cost saving areas & improvement areas.
Formulate improvement proposals and ensure its implementation.
Customer/ External Orientation
Ensure that all communications from the department to customers is prompt and courteous.
Work with external clients in a professional manner to deliver agreed level of service with context set by Senior Management.

Core operational accountabilities
Process Improvement:
Carryout lab-scale simulations of plant issues ( e.g., reaction imbalance, color/odour problems, impurities, yield loss, corrosion etc)
Perform lab-scale synthesis, reactions, formulations, and material testing based on project requirements.
Prepare experimental plans under the guidance of R&D Scientists/Engineers.
Conduct experiments to study reaction kinetics, process parameters optimization, material compatibility, and performance evaluations.
Identify root causes of process upsets, deviations, or product quality failures through analytical testing
Work with plant teams to validate hypotheses and suggest corrective and preventive actions ( CAPA) Quality, Safety and Environment Observation
Performs chemical and physical tests (titrations, chromatography, spectroscopic analysis, thermal analysis, moisture content etc) as required
Develop quick test methods to support urgent plant trouble shooting
Follow safety protocols for handling hazardous chemicals
Ensure compliance with plant SOPs, ISO standards and environmental guidelines.
Participate in safety audits and provide chemical safety inputs during trouble shooting
System Management
To ensure implementation of Integrated Management System, British Safety Council, Responsible Care procedures and systems like TQM, TPM, KAIZEN, SIX Sigma for the function.
Review audit reports and plan for improvement

Technical & Behavioral Skills & Knowledge
Qualification:
B Sc/M Sc in chemistry or Diploma in Chemical engineering with minimum 3 to 5 yrs of experience in a broad
range of technical and Operational roles in Technical Services. Working in Chlor Alkali manufacturing
organizations will be added advantage.

Ability to present the findings in a clear and concise manner to top management
Good command on tools like 5S, TPM, TQM, Six Sigma etc.
Good analytical skills, analyzing processes and applications, to bring in changes resulting in cost savings, energy
savings and enhanced operational efficiency.
Should have exposure of SAP.
