Purpose of the Position (Job Summary)

To ensure smooth, reliable & efficient operation of Power Plant in shift. To ensure & operate the plant (boiler, turbine & CHP) in a shift as per predefined SOP’s. Operate the plant within standard operating conditions (SOC) and highlight to concern area in charge for any deviation during shift operation. Strictly adhere to water & steam quality during shift operation & ensure sampling is done regularly.

Strategy · Providing directions to the team to ensure operational strategies are executed in a manner that is in alignment with the organizational strategic plan. · Drive the operational strategy ensuring reliability, availability, and efficiency targets are consistently met. · Implement long-term asset management plans—predictive maintenance, energy optimization, and lifecycle improvement. · Align area performance with organizational goals on sustainability, emission norms, and production demand. · Lead digitalization, process automation, and data-driven decision-making initiatives. · Plan for annual overhauls, shutdowns, and upgradation schedules in coordination with plant leadership.

Financial § Focus on cost optimization by yield improvements, energy conservation, productivity improvement & minimizing downtime, minimizing losses and effective utilization of available resources. § Control operating expenditures by optimizing fuel usage, bed material consumption, chemical usage, and auxiliary power. § Strictly avoid forced outages through proactive monitoring and robust maintenance practices. § Validate major spares planning & procurement to ensure cost efficiency without compromising reliability. § Track and analyse KPIs: heat rate, steam rate, specific oil consumption, turbine efficiency, boiler efficiency, and maintenance cost. § Support budget creation and ensure adherence to annual O&M budget.

Customer/ External

Orientation § Coordinate & work closely with the internal & external stake-holders to achieve operational excellence. § Ensure uninterrupted supply of power and steam to internal and external process customers. § Maintain compliance with regulatory authorities (GPCB, IBR) § Coordinate with external experts, OEM engineers, and service providers. § Represent the plant during audits, inspections, and customer visits with accuracy and professionalism.

People Orientation § Lead and supervise shift engineers, field operators, technicians, and contract workforce. § Foster a culture of discipline, teamwork, accountability, and continuous learning. § Conduct capability building: SOP training, safety drills, control room discipline, turbine/boiler fundamentals. § Ensure structured shift handovers, workforce allocation, and daily review meetings. § Drive safety ownership—PTW compliance, LOTO adherence, risk assessment, and incident reporting.

Core operational 

 Operation & Maintenance · Responsible for the safe & reliable operation of Re-heat CFBC Boiler & P.F Boiler, Steam Re-heat Turbines(Double cylinder), Cooling Tower ,Air Compressors, Ash Handling and Coal Handling plant & other utilities like RO & DM Plant. · Operations under normal functioning, emergency and shut down. · Monitor the plant parameters and performance in the shift and to ensure power generation as per the target. · To ensure that Plant operational are in accordance with the technical parameters · To monitor performance for efficient utilization of resources and ensure desired PLF is achieved · Coordinate with Electrical, C&I, maintenance team & Process , for routing maintenance and key issues/problems during the operation of shift. · Maintaining/preparing Daily Generation Report, Maintenance Reports, Monthly Reports, and Critical Incident Report. · Issue of Permits for routing as well shut down jobs. Quality / Environment / Health & Safety Management · Coordinating with Maintenance/HSE for, implementation of safety initiatives at the plant. · Efficiency improvement § Guide and monitor continual improvement in the operational parameters of plant. § Ensure implementation of SOPs for operations § Ensure implementation and adherence to all safety & quality and other initiatives laid down by the company from time to time, such as ISO, TPM etc. for equipment maintenance and safety. Project/Commissioning Support § Actively involved in Erection/commissioning/pre-commissioning of Boiler, Turbine and BOP. § To ensure all equipments are commissioned as per guideline/procedure given by OEM. § Preparation of commissioning procedures/commissioning schedule and maintaining of commissioning records.

Technical & Behavioral Skills & Knowledge

· BE/B Tech Mechanical: 10-12 Years of Experience in Thermal power plant operation as Shift In charge/Engineer

of Power plant capacity more than 90 MW coal based Power Plant. Reheat Power Plant experience will be

preferred.

· Experience in handling Re-heat CFBC/PF Boilers, re-heat steam turbine capacity above 90 MW, CHP, AHP and

Air & Fuel handling system 

· Candidate should have thorough knowledge of Thermal plant operations. He should lead & manage the shifts

· Candidates with Boiler Operation Engineer Certificate are preferred.

· Knowledge of Pre-commissioning and Commissioning of Boiler Turrbine and Its Auxiliary..

· Knowledge of BBS,ISO / OHSAS processes

· Operational knowledge of computers (including SAP R/3)

· Knowledge of Erection will added advantage
