Purpose of the Position (Job Summary)
This position works under Marketing function and requires close collaboration with customers, logistics partners, and supply chain stakeholders, plant operations teams to ensure regulatory compliance, risk mitigation, carrier fleet & customer safety audits for ensuring hazardous materials distribution in safe manner.
Key Individual Accountabilities
(1) Strategy
Highly skilled in Hazardous Chemical Distribution Safety and a strategic thought partner to Marketing Head to establish the business processes for safe transportation, handling, and distribution of hazardous substances in compliance with Indian regulations and international best practices.
(2) Financial
Able to focus on cost optimization activities for completion of project within defined cost.
(3) Customer/ External Orientation
Coordinate & work closely with the marketing and other internal/external stake-holders to integrate safety excellence in marketing processes for Distribution safety.
(4) Key Accountabilities:
- Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure adherence to applicable Indian and international regulations (e.g., BIS, MoEFCC, MoRTH, DGFT, IMDG Code, ADR, OSHA, and GHS standards) for hazardous chemical transportation and storage.
- Business Risk Management
o Creates the systemics approach for enhancing the distribution safety by integrating it into various business processes related to marketing and logistics function including decision making for business.
o Safety integration in selection of dealers and transporters during marketing decision processes and KPI bases approach for tracking their performance
o Creates a monthly dash board for reward, recognition and reprimand based on their performance & establish connect to the business continuity with DCM Shriram.
o Conduct audits, safety inspections, and hazard analysis across all distribution touchpoints, including warehouses, transit points, and customer sites.
o Develop and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for hazardous materials handling.
- Stakeholder Collaboration
o Work closely with marketing leadership to align safety practices with product promotion, customer service, and business growth.
o Regular transporter’s safety meet and awareness sessions.
o Collaborate with customers and logistics providers to ensure safety requirements are met in transport contracts and delivery processes.
o Support supply chain management in selecting compliant logistics vendors and transport routes, journey risk assessment, etc.
o Works closely with plant level teams of production, logistics, EHS, Security to identify the challenges and take up with Marketing head / senior leaders for business decisions and resolutions for safe distribution of chemicals.
o Deliver safety training for internal teams, customers, and external partners.
o Provide incident response guidance and support during emergencies or spills.
o Lead initiatives to improve safety metrics, reduce incidents, and adopt green and sustainable logistics practices.
o Guidance on Journey Risk Assessment
o Conducts regular plant and customer audit and inspection program and leads the journey risk assessment
o Works closely with Corp & site EHS for overall Sustainability agenda including Product Stewardship program under Responsible Care Program

Technical & Behavioral Skills & Knowledge
Education:
o Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Industrial Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
Postgraduate diploma in Industrial Safety or NEBOSH Certification preferred.
o NEBOSH International Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety
o HAZMAT / HAZWOPER Training
o Lead Auditor under ISO system
Experience:
Minimum 10-15 years of relevant experience in chemical safety, preferably in distribution or logistics of hazardous goods.
Skills:
a. In-depth understanding of hazardous substance classification, labeling, packaging, SDS, and safe
transportation.
b. Knowledge of Indian legal frameworks including Factories Act, Environment Protection Act, and Hazardous
Chemicals Rules.
c. Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
d. Strong analytical, audit, and report writing abilities.
e. Well versed with various national and international codes for Transportation of hazardous and Dangerous
Goods
f. Good understanding on Responsible Care for chemical manufacturing
g. Familiarity with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle) and safety documentation software is a plus.
h. Frequent travel to warehouse and customer locations across India.
i. Skilled to handle distribution emergencies and availability for on-call emergencies or incident responses.
